"Luna," Siamese/Tabby Mix, Grey/Black, Hillsborough

Luna is an 18 month old, indoor only Seal Point Siamese/Tabby mix. When she went missing she was not wearing a collar and she was not microchipped.

She was last seen inside the house, but it was thought she slipped out the front door while the family was leaving for an afternoon event.

There were no sightings of Luna after she went missing, but tufts of her fur was found in a couple of spots in the front yard. There are known to be stray cats who hang out in the area, including the front, back and side yards.

We found the track leading away from the house in what appears to be the path of a vehicle. Luna's person was not able to go along with me, so a friend who knows Luna very well went with me, but she was not present the day when Luna went missing. She arrived a couple of days later to help look.

After we followed the track for a couple of miles, I mentioned that it appeared that Luna was inside a vehicle that was making multiple stops along the way, far from the home. I asked the friend to ask Luna's person if a delivery service has delivered packages to the home, and she said that UPS had dropped off packages that day close to 5 PM. The family left around 2 PM.

It appeared that Luna was loose in the on the large property for about three hours and then jumped into the delivery truck when they arrived. The driveway was large enough for the truck to pull up onto the circular driveway, stop to deliver the boxes and then pull out the other end of the driveway and head out of the area.

They said they would continue to look for her.

"Rider," Miniature Australian Shepherd, Tri-Color, Gilroy - Found!

I received a text message the following morning after the search that Rider showed up at her front door at 5 AM! The message said she was tired and hungry and thirsty.

___________________________________________________

Rider is a female, 10 year old, 30 pound, tri-colored Miniature Australian Shepherd. When she went missing she was not wearing her collar, but she was microchipped.

She was last seen by her person early in the morning when he left for work. It is unknown how she got out.  He received a call a couple of hours later by a neighbor that Rider was running loose in the townhouse complex. She was also seen running up and down the main street outside the complex and she was followed by another neighbor all the way to a remote farm and to the far back end of the farm where the person lost sight of her. We started the search there.

We followed the track for several hours until we got to a far and distant gate on a private road that lead to private government county property with signs forbidding trespassing, especially illegal hunting. Rider's person drove me back to my car and then he and his brother went back there to the gate and continued to call her name for a couple of more hours.

During the search where we were tracking, we did have a confirmation of a sighting of Rider the morning before, which was a day after she went missing. We were there on a Sunday, the sighting was Saturday morning and she went missing Friday morning. The sighting was several miles from her home.

"Mariah," Labrador/Shepherd Mix, Tan, San Francisco - Found!

I received this email about a week after the search from a friend to Mariah's person:

"Hi, I just wanted to let you know that Mariah was found in Sea Cliff tonight.  A lady walking her dog saw her crouching in a corner of a home and tried to go to her but couldn't get close so she went back home to get a leash and went back and Mariah still wouldn't let her near but did follow her back to her house.  She was able to get her in the house and to sit so she could get Peggy's # and they were reunited at 6pm.  I'm not sure Peggy will give Dino credit but it was he that pointed us in that direction.  Thank you for your help. Betty"

______________________________________________

Mariah is a six year old, yellow, 40 pound, Labrador/Shepherd/Terrier mix. When she went missing she was wearing a collar with ID tags and she was microchipped.

Mariah was last seen inside her home while the house was having some construction being done on it. Mariah got scared of the people and took off through the open front door, even though they had been in the home for several weeks without an issue.

Dino picked up the scent leading out of the area and into Golden Gate Park and into the other side, through the Seacliff area, throughout the Presidio, and eventually all the way to the base of the Golden Gate Bridge, where the search was called off by Mariah's person. She did not believe that Mariah would travel that far.

See email above from a person who helped on the search. Mariah was found several days later back in the Seacliff area, where Dino's initially tracked her to.

"Niccodeamus," Labrador Puppy, Black, Richmond

Niccodeamus is a four month old black Labrador. When he went missing from his yard, he was not wearing a collar and he was not microchipped.

He accidentally got loose from his yard, and he was seen running across the street to a neighbor's house. Unfortunately, the neighbor did not recognize Niccodeamus because the dog was new to his home. He picked up the dog and put the dog into his car to take him to the shelter a ways away, according to this person, but Niccodeamus got very upset and was barking. This neighbor said he stopped the car and let Niccodeamus out of the door and then drove away. That was the last time the dog was seen by anyone.

Niccodeamus' person believed that his dog had been picked up by a person in the neighborhood and was being held for ransom, but we found a track leading all over the area, even back through the area, all common to a dog who was lost and scared and confused. However, Niccodeamus did not know the area since he was new to the area and had not been walked around to become acquainted.

The search was called off after several hours. There was an attempt to do a second day of tracking, but Niccodeamus' person had to work late, and he did not call me back to restart.

"Nala", Grey/Brown Tabby, DSH, San Jose

Nala is an indoor/outdoor, seven year old, eight pound, Domestic Shorthair Grey/Brown Tabby with white. When she went missing she was wearing a collar with ID tags and she was microchipped.

She was last seen went she was let outside with her housemate cat, but Nala did not come back when the other did come back the next morning.

There were no sightings of Nala after she went missing.

Nala was missing for over a week when we were called out.

The track did lead away from the house and we continued to follow it for several hours until the search was called off. They said they would continue to look for Nala. I did feel that they did not think that Nala could have traveled that far, which is a common belief.

"Jack," Cream Orange Seal Point, DSH, San Francisco

Jack is a seven year old, ten pound, indoor only, seal point/tabby domestic medium hair. When he went missing he was wearing a collar with ID tags and he was microchipped.

Jack was last seen inside the third story apartment/loft, and it is believed Jack got out undetected when his person left the story open for a minute one evening.

He was missing for a couple of days when we were called out.

There was a possible sighting of Jack after he went missing, but his people dismissed it because they thought it was too far away. After finding out how Jack left the building, shortly we were in the area of the possible sighting about four blocks from the building.

We continued the search for three days, several hours each. On the first day, it did appear that Jack was picked up after walking through a homeless camp under a freeway onramp. One of the residents did confirm they saw Jack walking in the area late at night, and from there it was obvious that Jack had been picked up and carried all the way out to the Sunset District.

"Yoshi," Iguana, Redwood City - Found!

Yoshi is a five foot long, male, three year old Iguana. He was last seen on July 4, in his outdoor habitat. His people went to fireworks display, came home late and didn't check on him until the next afternoon, and they noticed his habitat door was loose and Yoshi was gone.

There were no sightings of Yoshi after he went missing.

We followed the track on two separate days for several hours each day.

I received an email almost two weeks later saying that Yoshi was found in the local neighborhood. His person said he was dehydrated and thin
