"Fin," Terrier Mix, Black, Berkeley - Found!

Fin is an all black, four year old, 25 pound mixed breed. He is wearing a collar with ID tags and he is microchipped.

Fin was waiting in the car while his people went inside a store. Fin jumped out of the car and was seen numerous times in the area running around, but he would not approach anybody.

He was last seen running down a freeway off ramp (see above photo), going in the opposite direction of traffic. We were not able to get to that point to start a search.

The next day, a person posted on Craigslist that they saw a small black dog running around the parking lot next to Golden Gate Fields. This person did not respond to any requests for further information, so Fin's person was not able to confirm any further information. The location where the dog was seen was about a half mile from where Fin went missing.

We went to that location and we did find Fin's scent. We followed it for several hours, when Fin's people got a phone call that Fin had been picked up and was safe at a home. He was found somewhere in the Berkeley Marina. The bottom photo is after Fin was picked up and everybody was very happy.

"Roxie," Lab Mix, Brown and White, San Francisco - Found!

Roxie is a four year old, brown and white, medium size mixed breed. She is wearing a collar and ID tags and she is microchipped.

Roxie was walking with her dog walker at Fort Funston when she got startled by a sound and took off running. She was sighted at the Olympic Club Golf Course, so we started our search there.

We followed her track for four hours, and then the dog walker called off the search, saying they would all look for Roxie.

I got an email the next morning that said that Roxie was found at the Peninsula Humane Society. She had been found by a citizen during the night somewhere in Daly City, and they called the Daly City Police, who transported her to PHS sometime during the night.

"Jack," DSH, Orange Tabby, Oakland

Still missing as of November 10, 2012

Jack is a ten year old, indoor only, orange and white DSH. He is microchipped, but he is not wearing a collar.

Jack was let out by mistake by a housesitter who left a window open by accident, and both indoor cats jumped out. One of the cats was found within 24 hours, but Jack was not found.

There was a sighting of Jack several blocks away, but his people dismissed it due to it's location away from the house. They did not even tell me about the phone call the night before until we started to approach the area on our search following Jack's track. We started to follow the track from the home, and the track led us directly to the sighting. When we got to the location, and started to talk to people, another man said he had seen a cat that looked like Jack the same day, but earlier. He thought the cat was from the neighborhood.

As we were following the track, they also told me about another sighting of a cat matching Jack's description in the area where we were tracking, which was a couple of miles from their home. They had also dismissed the sighting due to the distance away from the house, but the track we were following led directly past that location.

We continued the search for several hours, and then they stopped the search, saying they would continue to look for Jack.

"Tattoo," Labrador Mix, Black, Glen Ellen

Still missing as of September 5, 2012.

Tattoo is a 14 month old, large, black labrador/boxer mixed breed. She has white on her chest and white on her back paws. She is wearing a collar with ID tags and she is microchipped.

Tattoo lives on a large 19 acre ranch. The only way to escape would be through the front gate since the rest of the property is completely fenced since livestock is kept there.

There were a couple of sightings of Tattoo after she went missing, and we started at the most current. Her people did not believe that the sightings could be Tattoo since they were a couple of miles from her home, but her scent was there and we did follow the track around the wooded and mountain area for four hours and then they stopped the search at the four hour mark. They said they would continue to look for Tattoo.

"Dragon," Papillon, White with Black and Tan, Richmond

Still Missing as of August 24, 2013

Here is the current Facebook page that is coordinating the search for Dragon:

http://www.facebook.com/groups/440281472678391/

___________________________________________________________
Dragon is a two year old white with black Papillon. He is wearing a collar with ID tags and he is microchipped.

Dragon went missing while he was being boarded while  his person was out of town. He was on an off-leash walk and disappeared while on the walk.

Before I started, the last known sighting was of Dragon on July 3 at the Richmond Marina. We started the search there.

At the end of the first day, Saturday, we had to stop at 8 PM, before daylight ended, because we were in a very dangerous part of Richmond, and we did not feel safe to continue. The search was continued the following Monday and was stopped at the four hour mark by Dragon's person. She said she would continue to look for him.

See the above Facebook page for all recent updates.

Unfortunately, the first day had to be divided into two maps because, for some unknown reason, the GPS would not take at the Marina. After restarting my phone a couple of times, I finally got the GPS tracking to work. That is where the second map kicks in.

"Mallory," Shepherd Mix, Tan with Black, Windsor - Found!

Mallory is a nine month old Shepherd mix. She is not wearing a collar, but she is microchipped.

She and her father jumped out of the fenced yard and took off. The father came home on his own a couple of days later, but Mallory was not with him.

There were no sightings of Mallory after she went missing.

Mallory had been missing for about four days when I was called.

We had a time scheduled the next day in the afternoon to do a search. However, I received a call that morning that Mallory had been find about three miles away. She had run into a yard and would not leave, but would not allow the homeowner to approach her. The homeowner called a neighbor to help and that neighbor checked Craigslist to see if the dog was listed. He found their ad and called.

"Bella," Bichon/Shiz Tzu mix, White, Castro Valley - Found!

Bella is a six year old Shiz Tzu/Bichon mix. She is not wearing a collar and she is not microchipped.

Bella went missing the night of July 4 during the time when her family was out at the Independence Day celebration.

She had been missing for three days when I arrived.

They did not know how she got out of the house, since the door was closed when they got home. They said that sometimes it does not close properly, so they thought it would have been open when she got out and blown shut after she left.

I asked them if they had checked the large house and yard just in case she was still in the house, and they said, "yes."

The only track we found was a current track of her with her person on a very recent walk. She confirmed that this was the way they went the last time they went on a walk a couple of days prior to Bella going missing.

As we were on the walk, she received a phone call from home that Bella had been found hiding in a large walk-in closet in one of the bedrooms. The person to whom the bedroom belonged to confirmed that she had entered and exited the closet a hundred times since Bella went missing, but never heard a sound, until today while we were on the walk.

What our search confirmed was that the only track leading away from the house was a track of Bella on a recent walk, so, if we had followed the track all the way back to the house, we would have been able to go in a different direction of the search like seeing if Bella was still hiding in the house, or if she had been picked up directly outside her home and put into a car with the windows rolled up.

I am glad that Bella is safe at home. The photo is of Bella after she was found hiding in the closet.

"G.G." Red Footed Tortoise, Lafayette - Found!

G.G. is a 50 year old red footed tortoise, and she weighs about 20 lbs.

She had been missing for over four days when we were called.

She is allowed to run loose in the yard that goes from the back to the front of the house and out to the driveway. There is a gate at the driveway, however, on that particular day, it got left open as a family member was moving things to their car on the driveway.

She has gotten loose in the past, and those same locations were checked, but no G.G. Multiple people were enlisted to search the area, but no G.G. Signs were put up on the streets nearby in case she was picked up, but no sightings.

When we came in, as we were checking the yard to determine her last known track out of the area, G.G. was found in an adjoining yard that is part of a rental property next to the house they live in. It was unknown how she got there since there was a fence and retaining wall in between the two properties. I asked if that area had been checked when initially looking for G.G., and they said, "yes." G.G.'s people asked that, since I was already there, could I find the way she actually got out of the yard. I said, "of course."

After showing Dino the whole area, we found a track leading up the steep road past their home to the house next to them. This house was vacant and was for sale. The house sat on at least a couple of acres and most of that was steep, wooded hillside and unkempt since the house was on the market for quite a while. I asked G.G.'s person if this property had been checked by others when looking for G.G., and she said, "no" since they did not believe she would travel that far.

We found the track leading up and behind the house and then further behind, which was literally leading to behind G.G.'s house. At this point, I was asked to stop by G.G.'s person since she did not believe that G.G. would travel that far. She did not think that Dino was following G.G.'s track.

I think that G.G. traveled this way in the wooded area and then found a way, eventually, after four days, to the yard of the adjoining property where she was found. I am glad that G.G. is safe back at home.

"Pedro," DSH, Orange Tabby, San Francisco - Found!

November 2013:
I was told by a friend of Pedro's person that Pedro had been found back in the neighborhood a few days after he went missing. I don't know any other details. I have never heard from Pedro's person after the search.

________________________________________________________________

Pedro is an indoor/outdoor five year old Orange Tabby DSH. He is wearing a collar with a bell and he is microchipped.

He was seen leaving the house as usual, but he never returned home. There was a sighting of Pedro about a block from his house around 2 PM, and the person said that he had seen Pedro in that same spot numerous times in the past.

We went to that spot, and it appeared that Pedro had been chased by a loose animal, probably a dog. The track was scattered all over the court and then took off from the court in straight lines. Since that was his normal territory and during the day, it was unlikely a nocturnal animal like a raccoon or a bully cat. My guess is that it was probably a loose dog.
