"Pawly," Yorkie/Terrier mix, Vallejo - Found!

Pawly is a four year old, four pound Chihuahua/Yorkie mix. She is wearing a collar with ID tags and is microchipped.

We had a search scheduled for early the next morning when I received a voicemail that Pawley had been found a couple of miles from her home, still running loose.

This is the text I received:
"She must have went through the open space behind our neighborhood. She had to cross two streets and ended up in bushes near a house at the end of a cul de sac next to the open space. A pizza delivery guy was delivering a pizza to that house and spotted her. He and the family tried to get Pawly but she growled. They gave her cheese but it didn't work. Then they gave her water and she came out, but still growled at the man. He called the Benicia PD and they called me. As soon as I got there she ran right to me and I was crying like a baby!"

"Princess," DLH, White, Montara - Found!

I received an email on December 14 that Princess had been found in her neighborhood after being missing for almost two weeks. I did explain to Princess's person to keep looking for her cat in the immediate area, in addition to the surrounding area, since many animals will make it back to the area.

Princess is an indoor/outdoor, eleven year old, spayed, all white, DLH. She is not wearing a collar and she is not microchipped.

She was last seen at 12 midnight by a neighbor in their front yard, and seen by her person at 11:30 pm. She did not come home by the morning, and they started looking for her immediately.

We found the track leading away from the area and south into various neighborhoods and across Highway One to the area of the airport. Her person stopped the search at the five hour mark because of a prior commitment in the afternoon.

"SpaceCat," Tuxedo, DLH, Nevada City

__________________________________________________________

Spacecat is a five year old, indoor only, Tuxedo, DLH. When he went missing, he was not wearing a collar and is not microchipped.

His people were moving into the new house when his carrier came apart and Spacecat ran out of the open garage door and ran out into the open space surrounding the five acres, unfenced property. There were not sightings of Spacecat after he went missing.

We found his track going into the fenced backyard, which was closed when he went missing, but left open for him after he went missing. After it left the yard, it then went into the garage, out the garage and up the driveway and down the only road leading away from the property. From there it went down the road, and then all the way to Highway 20, and then made a left onto the busy road. At that point it was perfectly clear that Spacecat had jumped into a vehicle and was carried out.

We followed the track all the way into Nevada City, through town and up another road, Boulder Drive, and then down all the way to the end of a dirt road, and then it turned around and went back. At this point, the search was called off by Spacecat's person. We drove back home and spoke to one of the painters who were still at the house.

Here are a few scenarios we came up with:
Spacecat went missing on a Saturday. Monday through Friday, there were painters everyday at the house. He could have gotten into one of their cars. One of the painters did confirm she had not been to Nevada City in several months, which is where the track eventually led to, so we know it was not her or her partner. The other painter was not talked to when I was there, so I don't know his story.

There is another set of dwellings that share that same road that passes in front of Spacecat's house, and that is off to the right. If Spacecat was in any of those cars, the track that Dino found leading out, would go in the same direction. Spacecat's person said he would talk to them and see if any of them went to the place in Nevada City, where we found the track go to.

We also talked about any delivers that could have occurred during this time, like UPS, FEDEX or such. Spacecat's person did say they were coming and going during the next few days as they were completing the move, and packages had been delivered while they were not there.

He said he would review all these options and continue to look for Spacecat in a much wider area than they had been previously.

"Teddy," Chihuahua/Terrier mix, Tan, Los Gatos - Found!

Teddy is a 20 pound, neutered, two year old Chihuahua/Terrier cross. At the time he went missing he was not wearing his collar because he pulled out of it after being scared by a loud truck, but he is microchipped. He people describe him as shy and reserved around strangers, but friendly with other dogs.

We went to the location where Teddy was last seen by his person, who was walking him around the large apartment complex. We picked up the track leading out of the complex, and then across the street to a freeway onramp to highway 85. Eventually the track did lead out and then went straight down Winchester Blvd, and then led up and around a variety of streets and neighborhoods.

At the four hour mark, the search was called off by Teddy's people, and they said they would keep looking for him.

"Kraimer," English Bulldog, Red Brindle with White, Gilroy

Still Missing as of December 2, 2012

______________________________________________________________

Update:

This ad was posted in the Pets section of Craigslist on December 1, 2012:

Still Lost ENGLISH BULLDOG/PERRO PERDIDO - SAN JOSE (san jose east)

Date:

A reward of $1000 is being offered to who ever has information. We just want our dog back. Please HELP! He is believed to be in the San Jose AREA: PLEASE CALL

EN ESPANOL:

Una recompensa de $ 1000 que se ofrece a quien lo ha logrado información. Sólo queremos que nuestro perro. Por favor, ayuda!"

I sent an email to the ad in CL asking if Kraimer had been spotted in San Jose. I got two emails back that were so full of swear words that they are unprintable.

They remain extremely furious that their dog is missing and continue to take that out on me. Per the ad, it appears the dog was seen in San Jose, the exact direction where we tracked him to. All the photos in the ad are of Kraimer and even the flyer is the original flyer.

_____________________________________________________________________

Kraimer is a four year old neutered, brown and white 65 pound English Bulldog. When he went missing he did not have his collar on, but he was microchipped.

Kraimer got out of a gate left open by mistake at around 9:45 PM. He was spotted a couple of times in the next hour, but then he was not sighted again. Unfortunately, the two sightings came in third party through the police department, so we could not confirm the exact location of the second sighting, so we started back at the first sighting, which was closer to home.

The track lead us back toward the house and past it. His people did say they walked around the area looking for him, but then went to bed around 11:30 PM. Their house is behind a large gate at the back of the property and can not be seen from the street. There is another house there that belongs to the property owner. It looked like Kraimer came back home, but could not get in, and they would not be able to hear them due the location of their house in the back.

Per his people, Kraimer is very shy of people other than them, and will not allow people to pet him, even when approached in a friendly manner on the street with them. Kraimer could  have been sitting on the lawn and somebody walked by and maybe tried to help him, and he got scared and ran off. Their home is in a "downtown" and residential area of Gilroy, and there can be foot traffic going back and forth to the downtown area and other homes, per Kraimer's people.

From their home, the track led through an industrial area and onto a busy main street, Monterrey Blvd, and then the track headed straight north, which continues for miles, all the way to San Jose.

Also, per his people, Kraimer is in good health and walks regularly. They did say he could be very fast when he gets scared, and appears capable of traveling long distances. He is not a typical bulldog that tires easily and can barely walk, which has been my experience in the past when English Bulldogs become lost: they sit and wait for somebody to pick them up.

I did say that Kraimer could return to the area, like many animals do, and to keep looking for him a wide area and also to keep posters/flyers up in the immediate area in case he returns.

Kraimer's person made it clear in an email about a week after the search that she did not believe Dino was ever tracking her dog. I am not able to reprint the email due to certain words that were used. Her frustrations stem from the fact that she believes that her dog was picked up and carried away, or was being held nearby in a neighbor's home, waiting for their very large reward. In her opinion, English Bulldogs are so highly desirable that somebody would really like to have him, even though he is neutered. I explained several times that, due to his frightened personality, it would be very difficult to even catch him, even is they were being friendly and trying to help him. I reminded them that they admitted that he was fast and would not allow a stranger to pick him  up, so how do they expect that somebody is holding him in their home!

"Poochy," DSH, Grey Tabby, Eureka, CA

Still missing as of November 29, 2012

_________________________________________________________

Poochy is an indoor/outdoor 13 year old Grey Tabby DSH. She is microchipped, but not wearing a collar.

She was last seen  with her person on the large 13 acre property. Her person went inside to take a phone call and came out to find Poochy gone. That was not unusual, but Poochy did not come home by the nighttime.

Poochy was missing for over two weeks by the time I came up for the search. We found her track leading around the property and then eventually out, down the only driveway.

On either side of the driveway were other homes with no fencing and large dogs known to be loose occasionally, per Poochy's person. She did confirm that both dogs have been seen in the past on her property, especially since the property was vacant for several years prior to them recently purchasing it.

The track we found was of Poochy going down the driveway, out of the property and then going right down the "main" road. It did appear that Poochy went in and out of a couple of driveways and then, eventually, turned left, across the road, and down a service road, leading into the large regional park Patrick's Point Regional Park. It is a massive, to say the least, public park with over a 100 RV and picnic areas. It is also directly on the coast. It was beautiful in nasty weather. It must be outstanding in sunny, gorgeous weather.

We did follow the track all around the park on a variety of trails and parking lots. We did talk to a couple of rangers and they said they would be on the outlook for her.

After an hour of clear weather, it started to pour sheets of rain, and it continued for four more hours. There was no cover or place to get out of the rain. I did have a rain jacket on and boots, but by the end of five hours, I was soaked to the skin and freezing cold. Also, I was seeing tree limbs and branches down in area where we had already walked, and these trees that we were walking under were very large Redwood and Eucalyptus trees.

We thought about waiting for the rain to stop, but it continued hard for a couple more hours. We checked the weather for the next day, and the weather website said it expected storms the next day. I decided to make the five hour drive home that day.

Poochy's people said they would continue to look for her.

"Goldie," Mixed Breed, San Rafael - Found!

_________________________________________________________________

Goldie is a 27 pound, reddish gold and white, medium size mixed breed. She is wearing her collar with ID tags and she is microchipped. She is very shy and nervous around strangers.

She disappeared on Tuesday when a contractor came to the house to do some work, and Goldie got scared and ran out the side door and out the side gate, both which were left open by the contractor. At the time we originally talked on the phone, there were no sightings of Goldie after she went missing.

When I arrived at the house to do the search, they had received two new sightings, both within a half hour of Goldie leaving the house. We went to that location, which was just a few blocks from her home, and we found the track leading away in a different direction. Also, in that intersection was a work crew that had the street torn up and they were one of the people who saw Goldie running away. What the track told us just at this point was that Goldie did attempt to make her way back home after the road crew had already gone, but something got in her way (maybe somebody trying to help her) and she deviated away in a different direction.

From here the track went in a direction that led her miles away, but still within the city limits of San Rafael. Her people stopped the search at the three hour mark because he said he had some place to be, and his wife was not available to meet me on the search. He said he wanted to continue the search the next morning when they had more time to work with.

We had a time set for 10 AM the next morning. I received a text at 5 AM that morning that said, "Goldie just came home!!!!"

I got this voicemail at 8:14 AM:
"Goldie managed to come last night. We are so happy! She showed up on the deck at five in the morning. Thank you so much for all your help, and we think it was really because of your work yesterday that we established a scent path for her to come home. Thank you so much again for coming out so quickly yesterday. We are glad to have Goldie home again!"

________________________________________________________________
There was a little issue with the GPS mapping. I finally got it to start at the third attempt, and we were already about a mile into the search, but then it worked perfectly!

"Stella," Terrier mix, White, Oakland - Found!

I received the following email several days after the search.

"Subject: Stella has been found!!

Date: October 31, 2012

Many thanks to everyone for your positive thoughts and prayers. Stella is now home. Other than four sore paws and exhaustion, she's otherwise unharmed.

Great thanks goes out to the Ryan family who lives next to the Redwood Regional Park. Specifically Grandma Ryan who found Stella in their yard and tried to tend to her.
Although they were not able to get close to her to read her tag, they were able to find my listing onlostmydoggy.com

Through that site, they were able to reach me.
We were very lucky that the Ryan family were such kind souls. They too had lost their dog before and felt the desire to pay forward. We too will pay forward as well."

I asked: "What part of the park was Stella found? I know that is a very large park."

The reply:
"she was found in a home not far from the Piedmont Stables.
her paws were raw and bleeding and she was very quiet and somber when we picked her up.
but she has since healed and is already barking at the neighbour's dog. :)

I have to wonder though if she really did make it to downtown oakland and back or if perhaps we were following another dog's scent once we were passed Piedmont Stables?"

My reply:
"I am glad she is feeling better.

We were following her scent the whole way based on the scent articles that you showed me and her last known location. That explains the raw feet and the exhaustion and why she was not seen again in the area for a few days. Dogs are capable of traveling very, very far.

Stella is a very lucky dog! Many dogs remain missing after becoming lost."

___________________________________________________________________

Stella is a 25 pound, two year old, white/tan Chihuahua/Terrier mix. She is wearing a collar with ID tags and she is microchipped. She is also very cautious and shy of strangers.

She got lost when she was being walked off leash with an e-collar in the upper left corner of Redwood Regional Park, near her home at around 6 PM on Saturday evening. A larger dog chased her while on the trail and she got scared and took off. There were several sightings of her throughout the park in the next 24 hours.

We started where she was last seen on Sunday afternoon at around 3 PM. We picked up the track and followed her on the trail as she went out of the park, then went back in. She went to the Piedmont Stables, onto Redwood Road, and then back to the park. Eventually the track left the park and went into the streets of Oakland. The search was stopped after several hours, and they said they would continue to look for Stella.

Several days later I received the emails from from Stella's person.

"Ganja," DLH, Grey/Brown Tabby, Dillon Beach - Found!

I received an email a few days after the search that Ganja was found back near his house. His person continues to believe that Ganja never travelled on the track we followed. She believes that Ganja was there the whole time and never left.

__________________________________________________________

______________________________________________________________

Ganja is an indoor only, neutered, six year old, brown tabby DLH. He is not wearing a collar and he is not microchipped.

Ganja was missing for over one week without a single sighting when we did the search.

How he got out of the house is still not known, but he did get out with another cat. That cat did return home by the evening, but Ganja did not return.

His people did confirm that their area, which is directly on the coast and surrounded by miles of open space in every direction, did have a lot of various wildlife critters in the area like fox, coyotes, feral cats and bobcats. Many of the homes in the area are vacations rentals and remain vacant for long periods of time throughout the year.

After checking the entire perimeter of the house, we did find a track that led away from the house and eventually onto the beach, back to the road and then back to the beach, and followed the beach for miles straight up Tomales Bay.

I had a difficult time with the GPS map, which is common with searches directly on the coast. After several attempts I finally got the GPS to work, and the map below followed us to the point of where we finally stopped due to loss of daylight, and they requested to stop at the four hour mark.

"Chicu," Chihuahua/Terrier mix, White, Pleasanton"

Still Missing as of November 5, 2012

_____________________________________________________________________

Chicu (pronounced CHEE COO), is a neutered, five pound, all white, Chihuahua mix. He is wearing a purple collar with an ID tag, but he is not microchipped.

There were no sightings of him after he went missing.

He had been recently adopted to this new home. They went on a short vacation and had him stay with a nearby relative. This relative let Chicu out to relieve himself at 1 AM that Saturday night, and he took off from the unfenced yard. They said they drove around looking for him, and stayed up for a couple of hours hoping he would come back.

We found the track that went around almost a couple of times in the completely gated and fenced track of small mansions, even going past their home twice.

Eventually the track left the gated community and went out to the main road where it turned left and went all the way to the area of Shadow Cliffs Regional Park. It was here that the search was called off at the four hour mark.

They said they would continue to look for Chicu.

"Toto," Yorkie/Maltese/Poodle mix, San Francisco

Still missing as of November 6, 2012

_________________________________________________________________

Toto is an eight year old, black with brown, ten pound, maltese/poodle/yorkie mix. He is microchipped, but he is not wearing a collar.

His person let him out to the front porch of her home, which was a normal routine. There is a wrought iron gate that opens to the street, but Toto can fit through the iron designs. In the past, when Toto got out, he would always return. This time, Toto did not return.

Initially, his person and a helper friend believed that Toto was inside a house down the street, but after the police went to the home, it was proven that the dogs they heard barking in the home, was not Toto.

Toto was missing for two weeks when I was called. Just before I was called a person called his person on Monday and said that she had seen Toto the previous Friday morning around 7 AM, on her way to school, running loose just a couple of blocks from his home. We went to that location, and did find Toto's scent leading away from the house.

We followed it for several hours until we were running out of daylight. The area that we tracked him to, Toto had been found in that same area a couple of years earlier when he went missing.

They said they would continue to look for Toto.

"Fuka Fuka," DSH, Silver Tabby, Santa Rosa

Still Missing as of August 24, 2013

___________________________________________________________________

Fuka is a four year old, male, twelve pound, silver tabby DSH. He is microchipped, but he is not wearing a collar.

He was last seen at 9 PM in his backyard after his person let him out. They had moved to the new home a couple of weeks earlier, and Fuka had spent most of that time hidden in a bedroom closet.

He was missing for almost a week by the time we could make it to the search due to other searches ahead of Fuka's.

There were no sightings of Fuka after he went missing.

We found the track leading away from the small "green belt" that borders on one side of their home. From there the track led away and down the street, all the way to the end of the street at a court. We spoke to an elderly man who lived there and did say he thought he had seen Fuka in his yard in the last couple of days. He did allow us to check the yard, which was quite sparse with little vegetation. We did  find the track leading away from the house and continued to follow it around Santa Rosa and out to a hiking/biking path path along a water canal.

Due to a previous commitment that I had that night, I told Fuka's people that I would only be able to do a four hour search. I did attempt to arrive to the search by 8:30 AM, but due to the long two hour drive, I hit pockets of traffic, and did not arrive until 9:15 AM.

They said they would continue to search for Fuka on their own.

"Oliver," DSH, White with Orange, Hillsborough

Still Missing as of November 6, 2012

_____________________________________________________________

Oliver is an indoor only, three year old, orange and white DSH. He is wearing a collar with ID tags and he is microchipped.

He was missing for two weeks before I was called out.

It is not known 100% how Oliver got out, but it is suspected that the housecleaner left the front door open and he got out that way.

There was a sighting of Oliver by the daughter three days after he was last seen on Saturday evening by the same daughter. The sighting was several blocks away at the end of a court street. We went to that spot, and did pick up Oliver's scent. From there it led away down the street, up another nearby street and eventually all the way up to Skyline Blvd/Highway 35.

Along the way we passed by Spencer Lake, and Oliver's person said that she had received a call from somebody who was at Spencer Lake several days earlier and thought he saw Oliver. He called based on the flyer he had seen in another location.

Oliver's person called off the search at the four hour mark and said she would continue to look for Oliver on her own.

"Jerry," DSH, Black and White, Oakland

Still Missing as of November 6, 2012

____________________________________________________________________

Jerry is a neutered, indoor/outdoor, eleven pound, two year old, Black and white DSH. He is wearing a collar with a bell and ID tag, and he is microchipped.

He was last seen at home by the dog walker at around 4 PM, but he never returned that evening, and he had always been home by night.

After I arrived, there was a sighting by a neighborhood child who was familiar with Jerry prior to him being missing. She said she saw him on a corner near her house one day after he was last seen by his people at home. At the time she saw him, she did not know he was missing because flyers had not been posted in the area yet. When she saw the flyers a couple of days later, she told Jerry's people about seeing him on the corner.

We found the track leading away from the neighborhood and all the way down Skyline Blvd. Except for one deviation up a driveway near his home, the track went straight down Skyline until it veered off to a nearby hiking trail and then went down the hiking trail, all the way to Chabot Regional Park. We hit a part of the park where no people were allowed due to some wildlife protection, but Jerry's track kept going. At this point, we were already several hours into the search, so they decided to stop the search. They said they would continue to look for Jerry on their own.

"Tia," Chihuahua, Blond, San Francisco

Still Missing as of November 5, 2012

_________________________________________________________________

Tia is an eleven year old, four pound, unspayed, tan/yellow Chihuahua. She is not wearing a collar and she is not microchipped.

She got out of the house by accident when the house alarm went off and she got scared when police came over to check out the noise. Unfortunately, the police forgot to close the doors behind them as they went through the house, and Tia ran out.

There were several sightings of Tia in the next 24 hours, with the most recent being the following night at around 7 PM several blocks away. We started the search at that location.

The track led us all the way along Third Street, onto Bayshore Blvd and into South San Francisco. We stopped the search after several hours as we were loosing daylight and the track led us onto a freeway onramp.

"Bert," Chihuahua Mix, Dark Brown, San Francisco - Found

Today, November 6, 2012, I found out that Bert was found deceased on October 22, 2012. A couple of weeks after he went missing. Here is the link to the blog:

_________________________________________________________________

Bert is a seven pound, neutered, black with brown Chihuahua mix. He is wearing a collar with ID tags and he is microchipped. He is a foster dog with Grateful Dogs Rescue.

He was walking with a group of dogs and a dog walker, who was also his foster parent. She walked up to the water fountain and turned to look for Bert and he was gone. There were no sightings of Bert, even after an extensive search of the area by many, many people for many hours.

We found the track leading away from the water fountain, around the park, out to another parking lot on Skyline and then onto Skyline Blvd. Eventually he crossed Skyline near the Olympic Club, crossed back again near the horse stables, went behind the horse stables, came out near John Daly Blvd, crossed John Daly and continued all the way to Mission Blvd.

Eventually, he made his way to South San Francisco and was spotted a couple of times in the industrial areas.

On Day two, we started the search again from a current sighting near an auto repair place. That took us all the way into San Bruno where the track went directly onto the 380/101 freeway from a side road. We were forced to stop the search since there was no way to get onto the freeway to check for additional scent.
