"Poochy," DSH, Grey Tabby, Eureka, CA

Still missing as of November 29, 2012

_________________________________________________________

Poochy is an indoor/outdoor 13 year old Grey Tabby DSH. She is microchipped, but not wearing a collar.

She was last seen  with her person on the large 13 acre property. Her person went inside to take a phone call and came out to find Poochy gone. That was not unusual, but Poochy did not come home by the nighttime.

Poochy was missing for over two weeks by the time I came up for the search. We found her track leading around the property and then eventually out, down the only driveway.

On either side of the driveway were other homes with no fencing and large dogs known to be loose occasionally, per Poochy's person. She did confirm that both dogs have been seen in the past on her property, especially since the property was vacant for several years prior to them recently purchasing it.

The track we found was of Poochy going down the driveway, out of the property and then going right down the "main" road. It did appear that Poochy went in and out of a couple of driveways and then, eventually, turned left, across the road, and down a service road, leading into the large regional park Patrick's Point Regional Park. It is a massive, to say the least, public park with over a 100 RV and picnic areas. It is also directly on the coast. It was beautiful in nasty weather. It must be outstanding in sunny, gorgeous weather.

We did follow the track all around the park on a variety of trails and parking lots. We did talk to a couple of rangers and they said they would be on the outlook for her.

After an hour of clear weather, it started to pour sheets of rain, and it continued for four more hours. There was no cover or place to get out of the rain. I did have a rain jacket on and boots, but by the end of five hours, I was soaked to the skin and freezing cold. Also, I was seeing tree limbs and branches down in area where we had already walked, and these trees that we were walking under were very large Redwood and Eucalyptus trees.

We thought about waiting for the rain to stop, but it continued hard for a couple more hours. We checked the weather for the next day, and the weather website said it expected storms the next day. I decided to make the five hour drive home that day.

Poochy's people said they would continue to look for her.
