Search details:
Sophie is an indoor/outdoor, three year old, ten pound, grey/brown tabby with white DMH. When she went missing, she was wearing a collar without an ID tags, and she was microchipped.
Sophie was last seen on Monday, January 27 at 5:30 PM when she was let out into her back yard after her person returned home from work, but she never returned. We came out a week later on Tuesday, February 4 to do the search.
There were no sightings of Sophie after she went missing.
In the area where Sophie lives, the majority of houses touch sides with no space in between and in the middle of all the houses and confined inside the block are all the backyards, like a large park, except for fences on the property lines. First I had to show Dino the entire block and the handful of possible ways that Sophie could have left the inside. He showed strong interest in a couple of key areas. Then I had to show him the perimeter of the blocks just on the other sides of the streets of the inside block to look for possible ways out. After doing that, Dino found a track leading out of the area, which led quickly down to Golden Gate Park. After that the track went through GGP and eventually all the way out to the GG bridge.
It did appear that Sophie had been picked up by somebody, and Sophie's person did confirm that on Monday evening and into Tuesday morning is when the majority of trash cans are put out onto the curbs. Unfortunately, this tends to draw into the area the homeless/transient type of person, and they like to pick up cats as they are walking through on their rounds. The track we were following was definitely a human, compared to a lost, scared and frightened cat.
The search was stopped at the four hour mark by Sophie's person and they said they would continue to look for her.
