"Noelle," DSH, Solid Gray, San Rafael

Still Missing as of August 24, 2013

_____________________________________________________________________

Noelle is an indoor/outdoor, nine pound, two year old, solid grey DSH. She is wearing a collar with ID tags and she is microchipped.

She was last seen around 11 PM as she walked out her kitty door. She never returned the next day. There were no sightings of her after she went missing.

When I arrived to start the search a nearby neighbor's medium size dog was loose and ran onto Noelle's property, but when she found Dino there, she turned and ran out. Noelle's people said that is normal. That dog is regularly loose and does repeatedly come onto their property. It is unknown if she actually chases Noelle, but they did say that many times they see Noelle running into the cat door from the outside, as if to get away from something. Also, they had installed an additional gate in front of the kitty door to block any unwanted animals from coming in, and they had a hose ready to spray any cats or dogs that ran onto the property.

While checking for her scent in the area, we did come upon another large loose dog (Newfoundland mix) in the neighborhood, being walked off leash. The dog came directly at Dino, running past Noelle's person who attempted to block the loose dog as the dog's person was chasing her up the street. I was able to "block" the oncoming dog by shoving my water bottle in his/her's face as she came at Dino. The dog continued up the street, past us, as the owner continued to attempt to catch her dog. Noelle's person said she had never seen that dog before, but admitted she rarely walked in her neighborhood, so this person may be a regular. Surrounding their house is a very large high school with multiple fields and walkways surrounding it, so I would not be surprised that people walk their dogs in the area all the time.

The reason why I mention all this is because, based on the track we found it appears that Noelle was chased. The track led down to a street ending in a court and then kept going down one of the driveways which eventually turned into a dirt road that twisted and turned in many directions until it led out onto the main road below all these house. From there it made a sharp right and went straight and straight for many miles through San Rafael.

On Day two, the track was eventually stopped by Noelle's person as we followed the track all the way to Lake Lagunitas, a reservoir, in West Marin. We eventually lost cell phone coverage and the road appeared to be a fire road that led out into a further distant part of West Marin. It took her daughter over a half hour to even reach us to pick us up after ending the trail.

They said they would continue to look for Noelle.
