Almost one week following her disappearance, Panda was reunited with her people.
Panda is a three year old, black and white, unspayed Shih Tzu. She is not wearing a collar and does not have a microchip. She walked away from home when a side gate was left open by accident while bringing items back and forth from the car to the house. She was last seen on a Saturday afternoon around 1 PM. Her person describes her as a super friendly dog with all people.
The track we found went to the front of her house and appears that she was picked up almost immediately in front of her own house. The way we can tell is that the track we followed went along one direct path the entire time, and was on the right hand side. The road went all the way, without any deviations for several miles to the on ramp to the 580 freeway heading east, which leads directly to the far easy bay of the Tri-Valley area of Dublin, Pleasanton or Walnut Creek, or even out to Livermore and Stockton.
We have some clues. Since the pick up was between 1 and 2 PM on a Saturday afternoon, and the road Panda was picked up on is a thoroughfare from one area directly to Castro Valley, which is the first city some body would come to if driving west from the distant valley area, we were guessing that they came from the distant valley area for some kind of event in Hayward, like a game or Halloween event. Panda's person was going to check some schools and centers to see what was happening that day.
The person who picked her up probably saw her on the side of the road and did not have the time to look around and ask around, like they should have. Her person said they would put up big signs in the area in case the person who picked her up comes back and starts to look for signs. They started Craigslist ads and newspaper ads immediately.

We got Panda back via a phone call from the people who picked her up 1/4 mile in the opposite direction of your house the tracker took us. A family walking home from the store saw her almost get hit by a passing car. They picked her up and took her home. They called us on Friday evening almost a week after we lost her.
ReplyDeleteI am very happy to hear that Panda is safe back at home.
ReplyDeleteAfter having a chance to review the case, I have a better insight into what happened. I am 100% that the track the dogs followed was Panda's. In fact, it was even the most current track, which is what they are trained to follow. This would explain why they did not pick up her track in the other direction. This means that the people who picked up Panda on Saturday drove by her home between Saturday and Wednesday, the day of the search, and we were following that track. If they lived only a short distance away, and picked her up in the street near her home, why did it take them a week to return her? If they had gone back to the area, they would have seen the flyers and posters.
