"Ellie," Beagle, Tri-Color, Santa Rosa - Found!

_____________________________________________________________________

Ellie is a three year old, 28 pound, tri-colored Beagle. She is microchipped, but she is not wearing a collar. Her people describe her as generally pretty friendly towards people, but can sometimes be shy of strangers.

Ellie went missing from her home on a Monday at 11:30 AM when the garage door suddenly broke, fell off the track and started to make a loud noise as it attempted to fix itself. Ellie was in the garage with her person when this happened and she bolted out of the garage in fear. Her person attempted to follow her, but lost sight of which direction she went in. There were no sightings of Ellie after she disappeared.

I came out on the following Thursday, July 4. The track we found led off in a direction down toward the end of their court that her people said they did not check because they said they didn't know that the street was open with unsecured fencing. They said they thought it was all solid fencing, but did not check. They looked in other directions in which they had walked Ellie in the past.

The track led across a busy street and into and through large, rural, open properties. Eventually, the track came out into more developed and suburban homes. From there, it went up Fountain Grove Parkway until it turned down Montecito, which eventually, after several miles, went all the way down into downtown Santa Rosa. The search was stopped after five hours by Ellie's people. They said they would continue to look for Ellie.

I did recommend to keep up flyers in the surrounding area of their home since it was very possible that Ellie could return to the area, though not necessarily to her home. From where we stopped the search, there were several ways to get back to the area, and she had already been missing for a couple of days.

The next day was Friday, and I was scheduled to return to San Francisco for day two to look for another dog. During that day, I received a voicemail from a friend of Ellie's people that they wanted me to come back to Santa Rosa. When I returned the voicemail via a text, within the next couple of hours, I was told that Ellie had been found, but that person did not have any details. Over the next several days, I was able to get the full information of how and when Ellie was found from Ellie's people.

"Great! When did they pick her up and which street so I can look at the map?"

"She was at speers rd. The people were not home at the time and when we went back later in the day they still were not home. Mike is going to go over there today and try and speak with them."

"So somebody found her at the house and called you and you went to go get her, but nobody was at the home at the time? When did you find her?"

July 8, 2013 6:44:13 PM PDT
"No someone driving by saw her in a neighbor's front yard. We went there and no one was home, we took ellie and went back twice now to talk with the people but they haven't been home. We found her friday."

"Ellie is a very smart dog. She made it back to the general area and somebody happened to drive by and recognize her there, and you were able to get there quickly enough. How lucky!

I doubt the house even knows what happened. They are probably on vacation and she just happen to sit there, probably resting, when this person drove by.

I am glad she is home safe. I bet she is also. I know you are!"
